Bill brings Jewish history to life for Elphin Lodge residents

Elphin Lodge residents enjoyed a talk in the Elphin Hall by Bill Bergman, a resident of sister Rand Aid retirement village Inyoni Creek in mid-July.

Entitled ‘The Jewish Contribution to South African Military History and other Interesting Facts’, Bill’s talk was both a humorous and serious look at the Jewish contribution to the country’s military history over the past 350 years, from the time of Van Riebeeck until 2000.

The event was organised by Elphin Lodge resident Lilly Picker, who arranges many varied events for the Elphin Jewish Cultural Group and is a member of the hard-working Elphin Entertainment Committee.

Present at the Bill Bergman talk were (back): Lucille Katz, Bill Bergman (speaker), Auriel Wittert and Alan Garlick. Front: Ella Brown, Liebe Meyer and Lilly Picker.
