The nationwide initiative 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day was delighted to receive a donation of knitted squares from Inyoni Creek retirement village on Mandela Day.
Residents of the Rand Aid retirement village gathered around the fireplace in the clubhouse, hot chocolate and muffins at hand, and knitting and crochet needles a blur of movement.
Later that afternoon, 67 Blankets’ Kevin Friedman and Judith Clare popped in to collect the 900 squares that were produced. These will be crocheted together to make blankets for the needy.
Inyoni Creek manager Jenny Tonkin said that the residents have now been challenged to double the number of squares next year. She said that Kevin expressed his grateful thanks for the outpouring of love shown by the residents to people they do not know and will never meet.
